FAQs

1.    What is QuadroStar Pro Yellow and what does it do?

QuadroStar PRO YELLOW is a yellow laser of 577 nanometer (nm) wavelength for safely and effectively treating a variety of skin conditions ranging from haemangiomas (strawberry marks),
stubborn dilated capillaries which often present as telangiectasia (spider veins) that form couperose skin when they cluster together, warts, pigmented lesions, lentigines, acne scars and blemishes, and even hormonally-induced skin conditions such as melasma which is known to be difficult to treat.

A study on the efficacy and safety of 577nm wavelength for treatment of facial melasma in Asian women in their 40s with Fitzpatrick skin type 3 or 4, reported improvement of their melasma and skin texture after three treatments. Patients also reported that they experienced mild to moderate pain during and after each treatment with mild post-treatment erythema and oedema resolving within 24 hours. No long-term complications were reported at follow-up interviews.*

2.    Is it comfortable?

Most patients feel zero to minor discomfort, thanks to QuadroStar PRO YELLOW’s integrated skin
cooling system which maintains the skin temperature during the entire course of the treatment.

3.    How many treatments would you need to see results?

The number of treatments would depend on many factors such as the condition that you are being
treated for, the areas to be treated, and intensity of the laser that you are being subjected to. Minor to moderate solar lentigines (sun spots) and small blood vessels in the facial skin can usually be removed within three treatments. However, ectatic (dilated) vessels located near the lower wing of the nose and in oily skin near the root of the nose or on the chin may require more sessions to clear.

4.   What does the treatment entail?

After consultation with the physician, a clinic assistant will assist the patient to clean the area to be
treated. The patient will then be asked to take his or her “before” photos. Where necessary, the
physician would proceed to mark the area to be treated and cool the patient’s skin down before
commencing treatment. The hair in and around the treatment area will also be moistened to preserve them during the treatment. Immediately after the treatment, the skin is cooled down with cool packs or towels moistened with cold water in a way that is pleasant to the skin. Continuous cooling can considerably reduce the risk of side effects, even when it had been subjected to more intense/powerful laser settings. Most patients other than those who have been treated for conditions such as haemangioma should be able to resume his or her daily activities as per normal after treatment.

5.    Are there any contraindications?

Contraindications for the treatment include patients who have recently tanned their skin, patients who are sensitive to light or are on topical or medical medication that increase the skin’s sensitivity to light; pregnant or breastfeeding women; patients with cancerous and precancerous lesions in the treatment area, and/or herpes simplex warts or sores in the treatment area, as well as those with a tendency to develop excessive scarring, for example, keloids.

6.    How long does each treatment take?

Depending on the condition and area to be treated, the treatment could take anything from 10 minutes upwards per session.

7.    What are the post-treatment precautions?

Post-treatment care and precautions vary from condition to condition. Antibiotics may be prescribed to curb post-treatment inflammation.

For the treatment of ectatic vessels, patients should refrain from drinking alcohol and participating in activities that cause the body or the vessels additional physical strain such as jogging, gym, sauna sessions or hot baths for at least 24 hours.

For treatment under or near the eye area, oedema may occur under the eye for a few days, so
patients are recommended to sleep with their heads elevated; ie, on a firm pillow, for a few nights.

For the treatment of haemangioma, the area treated would dehydrate and develop a crust or crusts which might persist up to 10 days. It is important that patients do not pick at the crust or crusts and allow them to shed by themselves. Oedema and erythema (redness) might persist up to a few weeks.

8.    Is QuadroStar Pro Yellow suitable for dark skin?

Dark-skinned patients are often cautious of laser treatments, as they may develop post-treatment hyperpigmentation. However, as the 577nm wavelength has a lower melanin absorption level compared to the 532nm wavelength, the QuadroStar Pro Yellow can be safely used on darker-skinned patients without fear of hyperpigmentation. To ascertain if your skin is suitable for a treatment of this wavelength, please consult with your doctor.
